Who better to start this new column off than… me?? OK, let’s get into it.
I could have set this off with something really flashy, or really limited, but I’d rather this be a reflection of where my taste in shoes is right now - classic and clean. I’ve developed a mild obsession with retro running shoes recently and I don’t see it ending any time soon.
The New Balance 999 is such a great shoe for a few reasons. The first being that at one point it was a great technical running shoe (to me, and sneaker can’t be a classic unless it performed well during it’s time). Secondly, the silhouette of the 999 is awesome. It just has “that look”. Lastly, this is a shoe that you can rock daily. A regular rotation kit if you will. No need to keep these in a glass case. NB really hit the nail on the head with the 999, as well as the MT580, 1300 and even the over used college crowd staple 574. Great shoe for the post sneaker head dude who still has the fever but isn’t about to wait in line for 6 hours for some Js.
